green smoothie

This green smoothie is incredibly high in antioxidants and iron as well as providing 2.5 servings of water for your diet.

One half small seeded watermelon, peel and all
A pint of strawberries hulled
2 c. raw spinach rinsed
1 cup water (or as needed to be smooth)

Scrub the watermelon well under cold water to be sure it’s clean. Cut out any lesions or dark spots. Quarter the half.
Spin the watermelon for 10 seconds until slightly chunky.
Add remainder of ingredients and spin until smooth.

(You can add ice if you prefer them frozen. 6 ice cubes replace 1/3 c. water)

2 c. brewed green tea

1/2 c. vanilla yogurt

3 T. protein powder

1 c. juicy fruit (strawberries, watermelon, etc)

10 ice cubes

Taste is relative. What I find good tasting you might not and vice versa. But that shouldn’t stop a smoothie connoisseur from trying! When it comes to heath and weight loss, vitamins are important so I encourage my readers (and myself) to always include the following in all fruit smoothies.

1. 2 T. Acai berry juice

2. Banana

3. Yogurt or milk

4. strawberries or watermelon

5. Protein powder

These ingredients guarantee several important vitamins, potassium, protein, antioxidants, and calcium and help you to start your day full and with lots of energy.

Watermelon is a natural source of vitamins C, B, and A which are useful to protect us from diseases and give us energy. It reduces the risk of dehydration, and has a high lycopene content which is known to reduce prostate cancer. Watermelon is also stuffed full of electrolytes and potassium. Calories are negligible as you would be full before you’d come close to consuming enough calories to add weight. A great way to diet and great tasting too!

2 cups seedless watermelon chunks
1 cup cracked ice
1/2 cups plain yogurt
1 tablespoon sugar or splenda
1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/8 teaspoons almond extract
2 Tablespoons of Acai Berry juice

Combine all ingredients in blender container, blend until smooth.

For frosty summer snack, replace yogurt with 1/3 cup full fat, or 2/3 cup low fat vanilla ice cream.
